 Between 400 nd 273 a.c Paestum was occupied by italic population of lucan 
in 273 it was a roman colony with the name of paestum . the foundation of this town began after the birth of a trading - post near the left bank of silaros river - then the malarial fever forced the primitives inhabitants to displace the tocon towards the eats . The new town arose over a calcareous bank near the sea and anotmer little river (salso or capofiume). in the original town (that near silaros river) was born the seaport and the river on and the er-argiva's temple. it was the most important temple in the ancient italy the fall of the roman empire was also the fall of paestum , in 500 av for the unhealties conditions of the lands , the inhabitants abandoned the town paestum was rediscovered in 1762 afeter the building of the modern road that cross it.
